Letter from the Superintendent on the leak at Cahill Elementary School

Dear SCSD Families,

I am writing to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year, and to inform you about the work being done at Cahill Elementary School. During the winter break, a sprinkler system leak was discovered on the third floor of the building. More than 20 Saugerties Central School District maintenance and custodial staff members reported to the scene on Christmas Day to address the leak. The District contracted a restoration cleaning company to restore and clean the areas of the building that were affected by the water. In addition, our Ulster BOCES Health and Safety Representative has evaluated the situation to ensure that the building is clean and safe for students and staff to return on Tuesday, January 3.

Cahill Elementary School Principal Shannon Molyneaux has been working with the faculty members whose rooms were impacted by the leak to prioritize students’ needs. During the continuing restoration period, some classes may be relocated with staff and students rerouted around the work. Restoration work will be conducted primarily while students are not in the building to ensure an optimal learning environment is provided for all.

I am truly thankful to the Cahill staff for being so flexible and I am extremely grateful to the maintenance and custodial crews who worked so diligently during their holiday. I am truly blessed to serve such a tremendous community that continues to always pull together regardless of the challenge.

Here’s to a safe and wonderful New Year for all students, staff, and their families!

Sincerely,

Kirk Reinhardt
Superintendent of Schools
